Here is a simple drill that coaches at almost all levels can use. For reference, I have done this with players at the u11 level all the way up to NHL players and everywhere in between.

This was filmed in one zone blue line down, but can also be done in the neutral zone like you see here or cross ice.

You can use this drill as a “station” or “skill pod” in one area of the ice, while you have another skill drill going on in another area of the ice.

You can see at the end of the video, how this puck protection skill was used in a game by Sidney Crosby.

This drill can be done using many different skills. For example, instead of using the puck protection, you can do a toe drag, spin, puck under the triangle or come up with something else.

It is also important to focus on turning properly, with the players eyes leading the turn, and having both blades of the skate on the ice
